Anderson Teen Fighting For Her Life

Last updated on Tuesday, December 2, 2014

(ANDERSON) - A 15-year-old Anderson girl is fighting for life after police found her weighing only 35 pounds.

Her father, 58-year-old Steve Sells, has been arrested on charges of neglect and will be charged with murder if the teen dies.

Anderson's trauma team was called to a house Monday in the 3400 block of Forest Terrace Drive after a report of a severe malnutrition girl.

Police say the teen is mentally disabled and was covered in feces.

"They were cooperative enough when they came to the police station and provided an explanation for her condition," said Joel Sandefur a detective with the Anderson Police Department.

Police say the teen is so malnourished and in such poor health that she may not make it much longer.

Investigators are working to determine the extent of the neglect.

The teen was initially taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Anderson by a concerned family member, but was transferred to Peyton Manning Children's Hospital at St. Vincent for treatment Monday night.
