Police Seize More Than 17 Pounds Of Heroin Worth $1.5 Million

(FORT WAYNE) - The U.S. Attorney’s Office says more than 17 pounds of heroin worth up to $1.5 million has been seized from a house in Fort Wayne.

U.S. Attorney David Capp described it as "the largest heroin takedown ever" in northern Indiana.

Eduardo Martinez, 29, and Rigoberto Martinez, 32, of Fort Wayne, Cesar Rosales, 40, Wilmington, California, Juan Rosales Suarez, 41, of Memphis, Tennessee, and Gisela Leyva Gamez, 28, of Phoenix made initial court appearances Monday in U.S. District Court in Fort Wayne.

They are charged with possessing with intent to distribute 1 kilogram or more of heroin and conspiring to possess with intent to distribute 1 kilogram or more of heroin. Innocent pleas were entered and they requested public defenders.

Detention hearings are scheduled for Friday.
