Police Searching For Woman Who Impersonated Police Officer

Last updated on Wednesday, December 31, 2014

(COLUMBUS) - Columbus Police are looking for a woman who impersonated a police officer and executed a traffic stop.

Sgt. Matt Harris, spokesman for the Columbus Police Department, says that at about 8:45 p.m. Sunday, a motorist called 911 to report the incident. She said that a black car with no markings pulled up behind the her, then displayed a red flashing light while flashing its headlights. The driver pulled over and observed a white female in plain clothes get out of the car. The suspect approached the victim's vehicle, said nothing, then grabbed the victim's seatbelt. The victim then sped away and called police.

The suspect is described as 5'6" tall and approximately 140 lbs. She reportedly has blond hair down to her shoulders.

Sgt. Harris says that police can make traffic stops in unmarked cars, but state law says that officers must be in uniform. He says that if you are pulled over and are concerned about whether or not the officer is legitimate, you should call 911.

Anyone with information on the suspect in this case is urged to contact the Columbus Police Department at (812) 376-2600.
