(KOKOMO) - The Salvation Army’s annual red kettle campaign has received a donation of a valuable coin for the sixth straight year.
The Kokomo Tribune reports an anonymous donor dropped a gold Krugerrand and two American Centennial Celebration silver coins into a kettle on the city's east side Monday.
The coins have appeared in kettles during the collection season for several years. Salvation Army officials believe they are donated by a single individual.
The Krugerrand is found in South Africa. One of the coins that was donated in a Kokomo kettle last year was sold for more than $1,200.
A Krugerrand also was donated in Mishawaka last year.
