Indiana 13th Worst State For Flu Vaccinations

Last updated on Wednesday, December 3, 2014

(UNDATED) - The State Department of Health recommends a three-pronged approach to fighting the flu: get a vaccine, cover coughs and sneezes, and stay home if you’re sick.

Indiana State Health Commissioner Dr. Jerome Adams says Indiana's vaccination rate is the 13th worst in the nation, with only 42% of Hoosiers getting a flu shot.

"There's not one major reason, it varies in different communities," Adams said. "Some people are worried about fears related to Autism which have not been founded. Other people are worried about the fact that the flu shot hurts."

For those who don't like needles, a nasal spray is available, which is just as effective as the shot.
