Give To Outdoor Causes In Someone's Honor For The Holidays

Last updated on Wednesday, December 17, 2014

(UNDATED) - The Indiana DNR has gift solutions for those on your list more concerned about the state’s outdoors than about acquiring more stuff.

Make a tax-deductible contribution in that person's name to support a number of outdoor causes.

Support a person's favorite state park with a financial gift in their honor. Contact Ginger Murphy at (317) 232-4143, gmurphy@dnr.IN.gov, or write to State Parks, 402 W. Washington St., Room W298, Indianapolis, IN 46204. You can also give a membership to the person's favorite state park or reservoir Friends group. Contact information for all Friends groups is at StateParks.IN.gov/2442.htm.

The Indiana Natural Resources Foundation funds programs that help children connect with and learn about nature and by growing our forests, parks and preserves through land acquisition and restoration. To make such a donation or donate for the following, all of which may be tax deductible, see at IndianaNRF.org.

Information on these and other Indiana State Parks projects that need funding, including maintenance of the Col. William Jones home at Lincoln State Park, restoration of the Col. Richard Lieber Memorial at Turkey Run State Park, and furnishings and maintenance for the Moery Cabin at Patoka Lake, is at StateParks.IN.gov/2923.htm.

Support land acquisition and other projects throughout the DNR by contributing to Indiana Heritage Trust. Contact (317) 233-1002, nheinzelman@dnr.IN.gov, or write to: Indiana Heritage Trust, 402 W. Washington St., W256, Indianapolis, IN 46204.

Help the Indiana Tree Project plant 1 million trees by 2016. A $10 donation covers all costs to plant one tree that will last for generations. More information is at IndianaTreeProject.org.

Make sure to give your child or grandchild the gift of time for a winter hike, a hunting trip or a nature center visit at a state park, reservoir or state forest trail in January. More information is at childrenplayoutdoors.dnr.IN.gov.

Annual passes, lake permits and state park inn gift certificates are available at any state park or reservoir or online at InnsGifts.com.
