Last updated on Monday, December 29, 2014

(HUNTINGBURG) - The investigation continues into a Christmas night fire that destroyed the home of a Dubois County family of four.

The Dubois County Herald reports the Holland Fire Department was called to the home of the Kirk Brown family on South Lake Shore Lane at Lake Helmerich west of Huntingburg shortly before 8:30 PM.

The family was not at home and no one was injured.

Fire officials tell the Herald firefighters were able to pull two vehicles from the garage and save some of the family's pets.

Holland Assistant Fire Chief John Hemmer said in a phone interview this (Friday) morning that the fire was already burning through the roof when they arrived.

He says that the State Fire Marshall's office has been called in to investigate.

Additional tanker support was called in from Huntingburg Fire Department. Firefighters from Stendal and Spurgeon also assisted.

7 trucks from Holland were on scene for almost 3 hours fighting the fire and putting out hot spots.

Hemmer said that the family was not home at the time of the fire. Red Cross was on scene assisting the family with their needs.
