Anderson Couple Charged In Case Of Malnourished Teenager

Last updated on Saturday, December 6, 2014

(ANDERSON) - Madison County officials are investigating whether others will be charged in the neglect case of the disabled Anderson teen.

The 15-year-old's grandparents and legal guardians Steve and Joetta Sells were both charged with multiple felony charges on Friday, including neglect of a dependent, causing serious bodily harm and criminal confinement amongst others.

Officials are wondering how state and local authorities never got involved, and how witnesses, including the Sells' 21-year-old daughter Crystal and Amber Wise who lived with the couple never reported what was happening in the home.

In Indiana it is required by law to report suspected child abuse or neglect.

The teen's condition remains day-to-day.
