'American Taliban' Sues Terre Haute Prison Over Strip Search

Last updated on Wednesday, December 24, 2014

(TERRE HAUTE) - The man known as the American Taliban claims a federal prison in Indiana is violating his rights, and now other inmates will be able to join him in that fight.

A judge granted class action status to the case filed by John Walker Lindh - now known as Ya-hawa.

Lindh claims strip searching of inmates before non-contact social visits violates their constitutional rights. He says the practice at the Terre Haute facility is intended to harass Muslim men.

The court is also considering whether to allow class action for another suit Lindh filed claiming the required pant length violates religious freedom.
