Woman Accused Of Human Trafficking

Last updated on Friday, November 21, 2014

(COLUMBUS) - A woman who was arrested in Indiana late Tuesday night on a drug charge also had a warrant out for her arrest on commercial sex and human trafficking charges.

The Columbus Police Department said Thursday that 22-year-old Laura Thomas was pulled over in the 2400 block of West Johnathan Moore Pike in Columbus just before midnight.

Officers said they could smell marijuana coming from inside the car as they spoke with Thomas.

When officers ran a check of Thomas' driver's license, they found a warrant out of Maryland on the sex and human trafficking charges.

"The warrant was issued for Thomas as a result of a 2012 investigation that alleges she participated in a prostitution recruiting scheme involving young girls," read part of a release from Columbus police Sgt. D. Matthew Harris.

Police said they found marijuana in the car.

Thomas was being held Wednesday in the Bartholomew County Jail.
