Last updated on Thursday, November 27, 2014

(TERRE HAUTE) - The son of Putnam County Sheriff Steve Fenwick has admitted to lying to a grand jury.

Andrew Fenwick took a plea deal with federal prosecutors, avoiding trial.

Fenwick admitted to lying during the grand jury investigation into former deputy TJ Smith.

In September, Smith was convicted of using excessive force on two occasions.

Fenwick was a reserve deputy with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

Under the plea agreement, Fenwick will spend 6 months on home detention with electronic monitoring, followed by 6 months probation.

He also agreed to resign his position at the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, and he will never again seek employment as a law enforcement officer.
