Police Arrest 17-Year-Old For Fishers Murder

Last updated on Wednesday, November 5, 2014

(FISHERS) - The Fishers Police Department arrested 17-year-old Maxwell Winkler in connection with Saturday’s murder of 73-year-old Henry Kim.

WTHR reports the arrest was made around 5 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Winkler is charged with murder and has been waived to adult court. He is a student at Hamilton Southeastern High School and lives in the Windermere Park subdivision where Kim was found murdered.

The Fishers senior citizen was killed while taking a walk a mere half-mile from his home. He was not only shot, but also had his throat slashed.

Investigators confirmed the double injury Monday afternoon. The coroner had not yet ruled which injury was the exact cause of death for 73-year-old Henry Kim, but the coroner did say Kim had bee shot three times -- once in the cheek, back and arm -- and suffered a deep laceration across his neck.

Fishers Police did recover a knife Monday, several blocks away from the crime scene, but it was unclear if it was used in the attack.

An autopsy was conducted on Kim Monday afternoon. The results should be available on Tuesday.

Kim's body was found Saturday evening around 7 p.m. in the grass near a retention pond at Windermere Park near 96th and Mollenkopf Road.

Police say they worked around the clock since Saturday night, using all their resources to try to figure out who killed Kim.

While searching a wooded area Monday afternoon near 106th Street and Hawthorne Ridge, Fishers Police detectives came into contact with Winkler who had previously been considered a 'person of interest.'

Late Monday night, detectives executed search warrants at two locations in Fishers, including Winkler's home, and collected items believed to be related to the homicide. That led to Winkler's arrest Tuesday morning.
