ISP Investigating Officer Involved Shooting

Last updated on Monday, November 17, 2014

(MARION) - Indiana State Police are now investigating an officer involved shooting in Marion.

The shooting happened early Sunday morning when Marion Police responded to reports of multiple shots fired.

As one officer was headed to the scene he saw a man walking down the street and attempted to talk to him--and that's when the man fled. During the pursuit the officer saw the man gripping a handgun and told him to drop it. Police say that's when the suspect, instead, appeared to turn around and the officer fired. That man has since been identified as 26-year-old Chris Cook. He suffered a single gunshot wound to the lower torso.

The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
