Hundreds Of Pigs Die In Semi Crash

Last updated on Friday, November 21, 2014

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A semi tractor-trailer carrying over two thousand pigs overturned on a west side interstate ramp Thursday night.

Sgt. Rich Myers with Indiana State Police says the crash happened on the ramp from northbound I-465 to westbound I-74. He says the driver of the semi was traveling too quickly on the ramp and the trailer overturned.

The trailer was carrying 2,058 pigs, several of which were injured or killed in the crash.

Sgt. Myers says the pigs that survived were being transported to the Indiana State Fairgrounds until another truck coming from Evansville could pick them up.

The semi was traveling to Iowa.

The driver of the semi and his passenger were not injured in the crash.
