Coroners Ask Public For Help Identifying Woman

Last updated on Thursday, November 20, 2014

(CROWN POINT) - Coroners have asked the public for help in identifying a woman whose remains were found in an abandoned Gary home last month.

The Lake County Coroner's Office said a preliminary forensic anthropology analysis suggests the woman is likely Latina but also might be black or white.

The woman was likely in her 30s or 40s, about 5-foot-6 and of average build. It says she had healed fractures of nose bones.

The office says it's not clear how she died.

The remains were found Oct. 19 after 43-year-old Darren Vann of Gary confessed to killing seven women whose remains all were found that day or the two previous days.

He's charged with strangling two of the victims and suspected in the five other deaths.
