Copper Downspouts Stolen From Evansville Churches

Last updated on Thursday, November 6, 2014

(EVANSVILLE) - Copper downspouts at Trinity Lutheran Church and St Mary’s Catholic Church have been reported stolen.

Each downspout is worth about a couple hundred dollars.

They are at least 10 feet long with some being 30 feet.

The churches are going to have to pay upwards of $1,000 to replace them.

Trinity Lutheran also had hundreds of feet worth of copper wire stolen.

Maintenance Director for St Mary's Denver Robinson says he was surprised the thieves would do that out in the open.

Facilities Manager for Trinity Lutheran Laureen Baggett says she hopes they will apologize for their crime.

"They had to be brave in this area out back. There's a lot of people driving around downtown," said Denver. "You would think somebody would see them trying to yank and pull it off the wall."

Local scrap yards have been alerted if anyone comes with something resembling the downspouts to call Evansville Police.
