(KOUTS) - Authorities are investigating a body found in the rubble of a northwestern Indiana barn fire.
The Munster Times reports the body was found Monday morning in the pole barn near the town of Kouts, about 25 miles southeast of Gary.
Firefighters had been called about 1:15 a.m. and found the barn fully engulfed in flames. The body was found after the fire was extinguished.
Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris said an autopsy was planned Tuesday and that alternative methods of identification would be used because of the condition of the remains.
The State Fire Marshal's Office and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are among the agencies investigating the fire.
