Six Rescued After Sky Cars Get Stuck Over Indianapolis Zoo Orangutan Exhibit

Last updated on Monday, October 13, 2014

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Two sky cars at the Indianapolis Zoo’s orangutan exhibit got stuck Sunday evening 35 feet in the air.

Firefighters were called in for rope rescue for people inside. All six stranded passengers - including two children - were eventually rescued safely.

An IFD spokesperson said two tactical teams trained for this exact scenario within the last three weeks. Zoo technicians spent hours each day going over the operation of the ride and possible scenarios that might require help from the fire department. Both teams then practiced those scenarios with zoo personnel.
