Last updated on Friday, October 10, 2014

(GREENFIELD) - Hancock County deputies are searching for a jail inmate who shortly before 6 a.m. escaped while he was being transported to the jail on US 40, east of the courthouse square in Greenfield.

The inmate, 45-year-old Anthony (Tony) Bowling, escaped while being moved from a jail transport van to a secure area of the facility. There was a brief altercation with a jail officer, however there are no injuries to report. The inmate was handcuffed at the time of his escape.

Several K-9 units and officers are currently conducting a thorough search of an area near the Hancock County Jail.

Bowling was arrested earlier this morning by deputies on non-violent warrants out of Johnson and Hancock County.
The public is asked to call the Hancock County Sheriff's Department at 317-477-1199 if they have any information into the whereabouts of Bowling.
