Police Searching For Man Who Shot Three People

Last updated on Monday, October 6, 2014

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indianapolis Metro Police are searching for a suspect who shot three people in separate incidents Saturday evening on the city’s northwest side.

They say the suspect also carjacked a vehicle in a Kroger parking lot.

Police say the suspect Daniel Brown, 42, is considered armed and dangerous. He is driving a 2009 white Nissan Altima, Indiana license plate SR3320. The car has chrome rims and tinted windows. He may have a brown and white Pit Bull dog with him.

Police describe Brown as a 42-year-old black male, 5'7" tall, 150 pounds wearing a black leather jacket and red shorts. He has a goatee and diamond earrings. Police originally put out information saying Brown had tattoos on his face but now say he does not.

Police say it started about 6 p.m. Saturday behind the Ricker's gas station at 71st and Woodland. That's where the suspect shot a woman, according to officers. She was taken to St Vincent Hospital in serious condition.

Investigators believe the woman was in a car with Brown, his fiancée and a juvenile. Brown and his fiancée were having an argument when Brown pulled a gun and shot his fiancée's friend. After being shot, the woman jumped from the car and ran. Brown chased her, continuing to fire shots. Brown then fled on foot. The fiancée and juvenile were not injured and are cooperating with the investigation.

While officers were at the scene of the shooting, Brown is believed to have carjacked a vehicle in the parking lot of the TownePlace Suites. He then drove to a house on 72nd Street where he grabbed his dog and jumped into another vehicle - a 2009 white Nissan Altima.

The Indianapolis SWAT team was called out to that location, but discovered the suspect had fled prior to their arrival.

At about 6:36 p.m. IMPD was called to the Gateway Motel, 1700 block of Lafayette Road, where they found another female shooting victim. She was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.

Then, at about 6:45 p.m. officers were sent to the 2800 block of Lafayette Road on a third person shot, but when they arrived the male victim was gone. He was later dropped off at Eskenazi Hospital with a gunshot wound. He was treated and released.

Detectives believe Brown is responsible for shooting all three victims. The motive behind the shooting at the hotel is not known. Detectives say the victims and shooter know each other and do not believe this is a random act.

"Whatever's going through his head, we don't know at this point so the sooner we get him in to custody, the better it is for everybody," said IMPD Lt. Chris Bailey. "I don't know why he's gone to this extreme, but we'd like to get him into custody as soon as possible."

Brown is still at large. He is considered armed and dangerous. Do not approach him. Instead, call 911 if you see Daniel Brown. Anyone with information about this case is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
