Toddler's Parents Charged With Murder

Last updated on Monday, October 6, 2014

(GARY) - The parents of a 22-month-old boy found dead in a Gary apartment from internal injuries allegedly inflicted during weeks of beatings have been charged in the child’s killing.

37-year-old Bernard Dillon and 26-year-old Selena Strong were charged Thursday with murder, neglect of a dependent and battery. They remain held without bail.

Police arrested the couple Tuesday after discovering Brandon Dillon's body on an air mattress in the apartment with obvious signs of abuse and a head wound.

The Times reports that an autopsy found the boy had multiple internal injuries as well as a broken neck and collar bone and bruised kidneys, liver and spleen.

The Post-Tribune reports that an affidavit states Strong and Dillon told officers they struck Brandon "because of his failure to successfully potty train."
