Mother Charged With Neglect After Child Shoots Himself In Hand

(INDIANAPOLIS) - An Indianapolis mother is being charged with neglect after her 3-year-old son shot himself in the hand Monday.

IMPD was called to the 9000 block of 39th Place around 3 p.m. Tuesday to the report of a person shot. Officers arrived to find the child with a gunshot wound to his hand.

The child's injuries were not life-threatening and he was taken to Riley Hospital for treatment.

According to IMPD, 31-year-old Arnita Wilson, the child's mother, left a loaded handgun under the couch cushions. The child removed the gun from the couch and shot himself in the hand.

Wilson faces preliminary charges of neglect.
