Indiana Panel Not Making Ethics Change Suggestions

Last updated on Wednesday, October 22, 2014

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A state legislative panel isn’t making any recommendations on ethics rules changes that the General Assembly is expected to consider during its upcoming session.

The leader of the House Ethics Committee says legislative leaders will be sent a summary of testimony it received following ethics disputes including one involving Republican House Speaker Pro Tem Eric Turner, who had millions of dollars at stake through his family business when he successfully fought a ban on nursing home construction.

Julia Vaughn of Common Cause Indiana told the committee Monday she believed the financial statements that lawmakers complete need updating.

Committee member Democratic Rep. Gail Riecken of Evansville says current conflict of interest rules should become more geared toward legislators.
