House GOP To Seek Changes In School Funding And Ethics Rules

Last updated on Wednesday, October 15, 2014

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - House Republicans plan to spend the 2015 session seeking changes in how the state funds its schools and rewriting their own ethics rules.

But Republican House Speaker Brian Bosma says they will likely hold off on any major tax changes sought by Republican Gov. Mike Pence.

Bosma and House Republicans unveiled their legislative priorities Tuesday, just three weeks before voters head to the polls to decide if the GOP should keep its supermajority in the House.

The focus on ethics follows a scandal involving Republican House Speaker Pro Tem Eric Turner. An Associated Press investigation revealed Turner's sizable financial stake in helping to defeat nursing home legislation this past session.

Bosma says increased funding for victims of domestic violence and police protection also will be priorities.
