Former Teachers Aid Faces Battery Charges

Last updated on Wednesday, October 22, 2014

(POSEY CO) - A former teacher’s aide at a southwestern Indiana daycare faces a battery charge after police say she injured a girl in her care.

Indiana State Police investigated the Sept. 5 incident, which happened at Children's Learning Center, 2100 W. Fourth St., Mt. Vernon.

State police said the investigation found that Meghann Stevens, 25, Evansville, was in charge of a 3-year-old girl who'd been injured at the daycare. Police said three children were crying in class when Stevens picked up the 3-year-old and sat down.

While holding the girl on her lap, Stevens squeezed her rib cage, causing pain and red marks. The Posey County Prosecutor's Office issued an arrest warrant after reviewing the case. Stevens was arrested at her home Monday night and taken to the Posey County Jail.

Stevens - who no longer works at the daycare - was charged with battery on a person less than 14 years old.
