Karen Pence To Host HopeLine Phone Drive To Assist Domestic Violence Victims

Last updated on Friday, October 3, 2014

(INDIANAPOLIS) - First Lady Karen Pence today announced she is hosting a phone drive through HopeLine from Verizon throughout the month of October to assist victims of domestic violence in Indiana.

"HopeLine from Verizon offers all Hoosiers with no-longer-needed cell phones an opportunity to help victims of domestic violence," said First Lady Karen Pence. "I am thrilled to be working alongside an organization that has already accomplished so much good, and I look forward to sharing a message of hope on behalf of Hoosiers who donate to this worthy cause throughout the month of October."

The phone drive, launched in conjunction with domestic violence awareness month, will collect no-longer-used cell phones and accessories from any provider for victims of domestic violence. Phones donated to HopeLine are refurbished and provided, along with 3,000 minutes of wireless service and text-messaging services, to those in need through participating domestic violence agencies or sold for reuse, which generates funds for the program. Since 2001, HopeLine from Verizon has collected more than 10.8 million phones nationwide and has donated more than $21.4 million in cash grants to domestic violence organizations nationwide.

"Many organizations are finding a greater need now for service due to the national dialogue about domestic violence," said Verizon Wireless Region President Lauren Love-Wright. "Indiana is no different and organizations here continue to experience more women and families coming forward for help, support, programming and housing."

Donation boxes will be located among Indiana's state agencies as well as in the Indiana Statehouse outside the Office of the First Lady, Room 215 , and the Office of the Governor, Room 206. Steps on how to donate phones through HopeLine from Verizon can be found attached.
