Arcadia Town Marshal Resigns

Last updated on Thursday, October 23, 2014

(ARCADIA) - Arcadia Town Marshal William Hickrod has resigned from his position as town marshal.

His last day will be December 31, and a special town council meeting will convene Friday morning to accept his resignation

Hickrod's resignation comes after he drew criticism from many people in Arcadia after what happened to one of its oldest citizens 10 days ago when 94-year-old Hershel Moore was beaten and robbed in his home and t the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department had to be called in to investigate. Two men have been arrested and charged with the crime.

Town Council member Maurice St. Louis says he can't just fire Hickrod until he was proven guilty of an offense. While town council members did say that changes would be made, they didn't say exactly what those changes would be. They did admit that firing a police officer is a very complicated thing to do.

The council members said their investigation into the actions of the Hickrod continues and the Hamilton County prosecutor's office is also looking into the case.
