Teenager Killed In Motorcycle Crash

Last updated on Monday, September 15, 2014

(ANDERSON) - A teenager died in a motorcycle accident in Anderson Saturday afternoon.

Witnesses say 17-year-old Kendall Nicholson was weaving in and out of traffic just before the fatal crash.

The accident happened around 4 p.m. Saturday when traffic was stopped on I-69 near mile marker 226 at Scatterfield Road due to construction. Officials say when Nicholson came upon the stopped traffic he laid down his motorcycle, sliding under a 2004 Chevy Tahoe. The bike then caught fire, though officials say the fire did not contribute to his death.

Nicholson was transported to Anderson's St. Vincent Regional Hospital where he died. He was a senior at Anderson Preparatory Academy.

Officials say Nicholson was wearing a helmet but speed was a contributing factor.

Lanes of northbound I-69 at the Anderson exit were closed for about two hours.
