Samtec To Build In Southern Indiana, Will Employee 300

Last updated on Friday, September 5, 2014

(SCOTTSBURG) - A southern Indiana maker of cables and other electronic interconnection products plans to build a new factory in Scottsburg that will employ about 300 workers.

The Courier-Journal reports New Albany-headquartered Samtec, Inc., announced Wednesday that it plans to break ground by October on a 70,000-square-foot factory in the southern Indiana city that's about 30 miles north of Louisville, Kentucky.

That factory is expected to open by mid-2015 near Scottsburg's Mid-America Science Park.

Global facilities manager Keith Baumann says in a statement that the move will help the company streamline its southern Indiana operations.

About 300 jobs will be relocated to the new factory when it opens, consolidating Samtec's operations there from two of its existing manufacturing facilities.
