Richard Mourdock Resigns

Last updated on Monday, September 1, 2014

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Skeptics suspect there is more to it than this, but State Treasurer Richard Mourdock has resigned a bit less than five months before the end of his term.

His resignation letter said he was doing so to "pursue other professional interests." But sources say that, like thousands of other state employees, Mourdock quit to stay ahead of a scheduled cut in the interest rate on state workers' retirement annuities.

Indiana Public Retirement System spokesman, Jeffrey Hutson, says State employees who work past this week will get a lower rate when they DO retire. He says the change will cost the average future retiree nearly $900.00 a year.
