(INDIANAPOLIS) - Colts owner Jim Irsay has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of impaired driving.
Irsay had faced two charges, but as part of a deal with the Hamilton County Prosecutors Office agreed to plead guilty to one charge. The second charge was dismissed, but Irsay will be sentenced to one year of probation and will lose his driver's license for a year. He will also pay almost 370-dollars in court costs, will be subject to drug testing and have to attend a victim impact panel.
Irsay was pulled over by police in Carmel in March when officers noticed him driving slowly near the intersection of Horseferry Road and Main Street. Police found 29-thousand dollars in cash and numerous prescription pills, but a spokesman for the Hamilton County prosecutor says Irsay avoided a felony charge because he had prescriptions for the pills. Irsay did not speak to reporters at the Hamilton County courthouse except to thank his friends and Colts fans for their support.
Irsay is subject to punishment from the NFL for a violation of its conduct policy. Commissioner Roger Goodell has not said when nor whether Irsay would be punished.
