Last updated on Wednesday, September 24, 2014

(SPARTA, KY.) - An Indiana man has died from injuries he suffered in an accident during a “racing experience” at the Kentucky Speedway.

The Kentucky Enquirer reports 30-year-old Stephen Cox of Decatur died Sunday night at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

According to the newspaper, Cox was injured on Sept. 14 at the track in Sparta.

Kentucky Speedway spokesman Tim Bray confirmed there was an injury accident on the track and that emergency crews transported the victim to the Cincinnati hospital.

He said the crash happened during an event called the Rusty Wallace Racing Experience. The event allows people to pay to ride in or drive race cars.

Bray said he couldn't immediately release more details or say how Cox was participating in the event.
