Fee Approved For Vectren Customers

Last updated on Tuesday, September 2, 2014

(UNDATED) - State regulators have approved plans from Vectren Corp. to replace more than 1,000 miles of aging natural gas distribution lines across Indiana over seven years.

The approval from the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission also gives Vectren permission to add a fee to customer bills for the projected $865 million project.

Officials of Evansville-based Vectren say the pipe replacement work is needed to ensure the safety and reliability of its gas network.

Vectren spokeswoman Chase Kelley tells the Evansville Courier & Press the new customer fee will start next year. The monthly fee will start at about $1 for residential customers and rise to about $13 by 2021.

Vectren supplies gas to some 690,000 homes and businesses in central and southern Indiana.
