(INDIANAPOLIS) - A former Indiana Department of Correction contractor is facing 20 felony counts of forgery and one theft charge following an investigation by the Indiana Inspector General’s office.
Yolanda Brown served as a contractor with IDOC from 2010 through 2013, in which she was paid an hourly rate of $17.04.
According to the probable cause, IDOC officials became suspicious of signatures on invoices submitted by Brown and determined that Brown photocopied the signature of Brent Myers, Director of IDOC Registration and Victim Services.
The agency also examined ID card activity records and determined Brown claimed to be working for IDOC when she wasn't.
For example, the week of July 1, 2013, Brown recorded working 36 hours earning a total of $613.14, but records showed zero hours of ID card activity.
According to the probable cause, Brown was overpaid $4,523.82 due to her overstatement of hours worked.
Brown's contract was terminated with IDOC on Nov. 22, 2013.
"Brown admitted that she recorded more hours on some of the invoices than she had actually worked," read the probable cause. "Brown also admitted that she copied Myers' signature onto blank invoices and submitted these invoices for payment. Brown admitted to forgeries on the invoices, but could not specifically state how many invoices that she had forged."
She is scheduled for a pretrial conference on Sept. 23.
