(LOGANSPORT) - A northern Indiana coroner says a jail inmate who died Friday after guards found her unresponsive died from internal bleeding caused by peptic ulcers.
Cass County Coroner Randy Rozzi says he's ruled 56-year-old Teresa Jayne Hardwick's death as due to natural causes. He says an autopsy he conducted Sunday showed that Hardwick succumbed from an acute gastrointestinal hemorrhage caused by peptic ulcers.
The Pharos-Tribune reports that the Logansport woman was found unconscious at the Cass County Jail on Friday afternoon. She was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Hardwick had been arrested early Friday on charges of public intoxication, disorderly conduct and resisting law enforcement and was taken to the jail in Logansport is about 40 miles northeast of Lafayette.
