Lifejacket Credited For Saving 15-Year-Old Girl's Life

Last updated on Monday, September 22, 2014

(SCOTT COUNTY) - Indiana conservation officers said a life jacket saved a 15-year-old girl’s life after she was hit by a personal watercraft Saturday on Hardy Lake.

According to the DNR, Kiara Williams of Columbus was riding as a passenger on a PWC driven by her uncle when she was thrown off after hitting a wave. Williams' grandma was following closely behind on another PWC and was unable to avoid hitting her.

Officers said Williams was knocked unconscious. She was airlifted to Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville to be treated for head injuries.

Williams was wearing a life jacket, which "undoubtedly saved her life," according to Indiana Conservation Officer Neal Brewington.
