Arrest Made For Motorcycle Theft, More Vehicles Stolen

Last updated on Friday, September 12, 2014

(TERRE HAUTE) - An arrest has been made for a motorcycle theft reported out of Fowler back in August.

On Thursday, the Chief of Police from Fowler, Dennis Rice, was in Terre Haute for their investigation involving the arrest of Kyle Akers of Terre Haute. Rice stated the motorcycle was stolen out of Fowler on Aug. 26 after a man and a woman took it for a test drive and never brought it back.

An identification card was left that allowed police to find a suspect.

"...been working with Terre Haute Police Department and Brazil City Police. With their efforts and information they put together, we were able to bring charges against one person for that theft," Rice explained.

Officials have confirmed this case of theft is connected to the string of 'test drive' auto thefts officials made an arrest on in late August.

"The efforts of authorities in this area - they put together a timeline - it is going to help us tie a second person into this theft," Rice said.

Officials first reported the case of a male and female taking vehicles for test drives and never returning them on Aug. 26. Vehicles had been stolen from dealerships in Vigo, Clay and Greene Counties in Indiana and Clark and Edgar Counties in Illinois.

One of the vehicles was recovered on Aug. 28 in Vermillion County and an arrest was made on Aug. 29. Officials reported on the 29th of August all vehicles stolen in connection to this case in the Wabash Valley had been recovered.
