Last updated on Wednesday, August 27, 2014

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A woman took advantage of a tornado warning to steal from an employee at a downtown Indianapolis store.

Indianapolis Metropolitan police say the theft happened on June 24, 2014, when the woman entered Carson's at Circle Centre on West Washington Street. The store was temporarily evacuated because of a tornado warning. Instead of immediately leaving the store, the woman removed a clear bag containing money and personal items from underneath the cash register.

Surveillance cameras captured images of the woman removing the bag and then concealing it in her sweater before leaving the store. During the theft, she was wearing a dark jacket, striped shirt and jean shorts. She has glasses and short, dark hair.
