Woman Falls From Boat, Body Recovered From Silver Lake

Last updated on Monday, August 4, 2014

(KOSCIUSKO CO.) - Indiana Conservation Officers and the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office are investigating the possible drowning of a Fort Wayne woman who was pulled from the bottom of Silver Lake Saturday.

According to police, Natalie Zellers, 38, was swimming with her husband on the north part of Silver Lake, which is west of Fort Wayne. According to the conservation offices report, both her and her husband were wearing life jackets while swimming in the water, but when the two climbed into a boat they removed the jackets.

Investigators said Zellers was standing on the front of the boat when she fell backwards into the water and never resurfaced.

Her husband attempted to rescue her while other witnesses called for help.

Conservation offices found her body on the bottom of the lake using side scan sonar. They said divers recovered her in 22 feet of water around 9 p.m.

Officers were called around 6 p.m. Saturday to search for Zellers.

An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday morning in Fort Wayne. The investigation is being conducted by Indiana Conservation Officers and the Kosciusko County Coroner.
