VA Awards Indiana Homeless Prevention Grants

Last updated on Wednesday, August 13, 2014

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Military veterans and their families who are homeless or at risk of it are receiving some help.

The Department of Veterans Affairs said Monday that has awarded more than $4.6 million in homeless prevention grants to more than 60 counties in Indiana. It says the grants will serve approximately 1,350 homeless and at-risk families as part of its Supportive Services for Veteran Families program.

The grants going to private nonprofit organizations and consumer cooperatives will provide services to very low-income veteran families living in or moving into permanent housing. Veterans and their family members will receive help obtaining VA benefits and other public benefits outreach and in some cases temporary financial assistance.
