(UNDATED) - McCormick's Creek State Park property manager Dwight Brooks and Indiana Dunes State Park interpretive naturalist Brad Bumgardner were recently awarded with the Lieutenant Governor's Hoosier Hospitality Award.
The award recognizes several Hoosiers each year for exceptional service to Indiana tourism. Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann presented the award to Brooks and Bumgardner and 16 others at the Indiana State Fair.
Nominations for Hoosier Hospitality Awards are submitted by community members and destination patrons. Nominations are reviewed and winners are selected by Indiana Office of Tourism Development.
Vicki Basman, chief of interpretation for DNR State Parks & Reservoir, nominated Brooks, saying he excelled at finding the delicate balance between preserving the park's natural and historic resources and making sure visitors have a good time.
"Dwight Brooks is a standout Hoosier making other Hoosiers and visitors to Indiana feel very welcome in a favorite Indiana park," Basman said.
Bumgardner was nominated by Lorelei Weimer, Indiana Dunes Tourism executive director.
She commended Bumgardner for generating public interest in the park even during this past harsh winter by encouraging people to see the shelf ice formations along the Lake Michigan shore.
"People who meet Brad understand what Hoosier Hospitality is all about," Weimer said.
