Last updated on Wednesday, August 6, 2014

(ALBION) - Indiana State Police have a person of interest in custody following Tuesday afternoon’s incident in which a state trooper was almost run over with a vehicle in Noble County.

State Police say the trooper located a vehicle around 2:00 p.m. which fit the description of a vehicle believed to be driven by a suspect involved in the battery of a woman from rural Albion, Indiana.

The trooper, who was in an unmarked police car, requested assistance before attempting to stop the vehicle. The suspect came to a dead end and as the trooper got out of his car, the suspect turned around and allegedly tried to run over the trooper.

The trooper fired his gun but the suspect was not injured. The suspect drove a short distance before getting out of the car and running toward a wooded area.

A perimeter was set up and K-9 teams from various agencies attempted to search for the suspect. A nearby preschool was put on lockdown while the search was ongoing. The search was called off around 6:30 p.m.

Around 8:45 p.m., dispatchers received several 911 calls saying a person matching the suspect's description was in an area not far from where police had searched.

Another state trooper located the suspect who attempted to run away but was later caught and taken into custody.

23-year-old Anthony Michael McClellan was arrested on unrelated charges and taken to the Noble County Jail. State Police detectives are still investigating McClellan's possible involvement in Tuesday afternoon's incident.
