Security Gates Planned For Governor's Mansion

Last updated on Thursday, August 28, 2014

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Officials are planning to install a set of security gates at the Indiana Governor’s Residence in Indianapolis.

Plans call for the construction of wrought-iron gates at the entrances to the six-acre property on the city's north side.

The Meridian Street Preservation Commission unanimously approved the plans this month. Commission Chairwoman Kathleen Blackham says several aides to Governor Mike Pence including General Counsel Mark Ahearn testified in favor of the gates, but didn't provide many details about why they were needed or when they would be installed.

A Pence spokeswoman did not immediately say how much the new gates would cost.

The money would be raised by the Governor's Public Building Foundation.
