Secret Service To Investigate Marion County Scam

Last updated on Wednesday, August 27, 2014

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Marion County Sheriff’s Department has called in the U.S. Secret Service to help stop a scam.

Sheriff John Layton says crooks are calling people claiming to be high ranking sheriff's officials.

Layton says the crooks tell victims they must buy reloadable Green Dot MoneyPak debit cards and they contact them later to get the card number. The crooks then drain the cash from the card without being detected.
