Missing Man's Body Recovered In Creek

Last updated on Monday, August 4, 2014

(CORYDON) - A man reported missing early Friday morning was later found dead in a southern Indiana creek.

Family members say McKim had been distraught over the recent death of his wife. He would often go for walks by himself to clear his head, but this time he didn't return home.

Just after 1:30 p.m. Friday, two fishermen were wading in Indian Creek when they made a startling discovery.

"They had located a body of a white male that was deceased. He was face down in the creek, adjacent to the fairgrounds here, also near one of the bridges," said Indiana Conservation Officer Jim Schreck.

McKim's body was found just underneath the Capitol Avenue Bridge in downtown Corydon.

McKim's mother reported him missing around 12:30 a.m. Friday.

Indian Creek is very shallow this time of year. It's only about a foot deep in the area where McKim was found. Authorities said it's unclear if he fell from the bridge or entered the creek from the bank.

It's also unclear how McKim died or how he ended up in the creek. Authorities said there were no visible signs of any trauma to his body.

Foul play is not suspect. Cause of death will be determined after an autopsy in Harrison County.
