Jim Irsay Trial Pushed Back To Oct. 30

Last updated on Friday, August 22, 2014

(HAMILTON CO.) - Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay’s trial has been pushed back to the end of October.

Lawyers for Irsay requested a continuance earlier this week. A judge granted the delay. Irsay was originally scheduled to stand trial on Aug. 28 following his March arrest in an OWI case; his new trial date is Oct. 30.

He's charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle with a controlled substance in the body. Prosecutors said he had prescription drugs--thought to be oxycodone or hydrocodone--in his system when he was pulled over for erratic driving on March 16.

It happened near Horseferry Road and Main Street in Carmel. Irsay was unsteady and had trouble standing up straight, according to court documents. Officers had to support him to keep him steady. Investigators found prescription drug bottles and pills in Irsay's car along with about $29,000 in cash. After his arrest, Irsay went into rehab.

The charges carry a maximum penalty of 60 days in jail. Irsay could also face punishment from the NFL.
