Eat S'Mores, Win Prizes In DNR Social Media Campaigns

Last updated on Friday, August 8, 2014

(UNDATED) - Indiana’s state parks and reservoirs have a sweet deal for people who love s’mores, the iconic campfire treat.

Visitors to state parks and reservoirs this month can participate in two s'mores-related social media campaigns for a chance to win prizes, including an annual entrance pass for 2015.

The campaigns are in recognition of National S'mores Day, Aug. 10. Several parks and reservoirs across the state that weekend will offer special s'mores programs, including recipe contests and "s'mores-gasboards."

"S'mores are a tradition for anyone who camps," said Ginger Murphy, deputy director for stewardship for the DNR Division of State Parks & Reservoirs. "Making them and eating them together around a campfire is one of those things families and friends long remember from their visits with us."

The first social media campaign asks campers and picnickers at state parks and reservoirs this weekend (Aug. 8-10) to take "selfies" (a self-portrait photograph) with their s'mores and share them on the State Parks & Reservoirs facebook page, facebook.com/INdnrstateparksandreservoirs, using the hash tag #smoresINstateparks.

The selfies must be taken at a state park or reservoir, and submissions should identify where the photo was taken. People also are encouraged to share any unique s'more recipes they have.
An annual pass for 2015, an inn gift card and a camping gift card will be given away Aug. 11 in a random drawing from all those who participated.

The second social media campaign also starts Friday, Aug. 8, but runs through Aug. 30. Photos of s'mores or s'more ingredients "visiting" iconic features of Indiana State Parks and reservoirs will be posted on Facebook. Those who can guess the correct location by posting an answer in the "comments" section will be entered in a drawing for a prize.

More information on s'more related activities at Indiana state parks and reservoirs is at interpretiveservices.IN.gov.
