(INDIANAPOLIS) - Disturbing details are being released in a case of a woman accused of throwing her newborn baby in a trash can at an Indianapolis factory.
Police say 22-year-old Briana Holland gave birth to a baby boy in the restroom of the United Technology Carrier Corporation building Friday. A maintence worker at the factory discovered the baby.
Court documents say the lower half of the baby's body was wrapped in a brown paper bag and the head was wrapped in a separate paper sack. Toilet tissue was wrapped approximately 15 times around his neck and a tampon applicator and tissue were stuffed in the baby's mouth. The baby survived.
Captain Mike Pruitt with Wayne Township Fire Department said that one of the saddest aspects of the case is the fact that there is a fire station directly across the street from the factory. According to Indiana's Safe Haven Law, the baby could have been dropped off at any fire station, police station or hospital emergency room, no questions asked.
Prosecutors are expected to file formal charges today.
