(COLUMBUS) - Columbus Police Officers responded to potential hostage situation Wednesday night.

Department Spokesman, Sgt. Matt Harris, says officers were called to the 3400 block of Brent Cross Drive at approximately 6:10 p.m. in regards to a woman stabbing her vehicle and threatening others with a knife. Once officers arrived, she allegedly began making threats to harm herself and officers who were on the scene.

Harris says that based on the woman's actions, along with information received about her access to other weapons, the Columbus Police Department SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiators were activated. The occupants of neighboring houses were evacuated and negotiators spoke with the woman for several hours. Shortly after midnight, SWAT officers deployed tear gas and forced their way in to the home. The unidentified woman was taken into custody and transported to local medical facility for a mental health evaluation.

No injuries were reported.
