Massive Blaze Rips Through Sheridan Business

Last updated on Monday, July 14, 2014

(HAMILTON CO.) - Firefighters spent all of Saturday night and much of Sunday putting out hot spots from the massive blaze that ripped through Sheridan.

The fire started at the Power Mail building, a structure that's been there for 112 years. It was the tallest building in downtown Sheridan.

Kerry Partlow says he was one of the first employees at Power Mail and worked there for over a decade.

"It's sad I grew up here all my life and I remember many stores being in this building. I did a lot of work on this building. I painted it and put floors in it," said Partlow.

Among the rubble, sat a demolished white box truck that Partlow said he drove while working for Power mail.

"Due to the collapse zone and the threat of collapse from the front side of the building and the rear side- main street and some side streets could be closed for several days," said Sheridan Fire Captain Travis Stern.

Also, the power was knocked out on the west side of Main Street. Utility crews were working to restore power.

The fire has also taken its toll on Sheridans' water supply says Stern.

"You have a small community and a large three story building like this, there was some difficulty at first.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
